The Brossard epic came to an abrupt end in 2013, with the closure of the factory and the dismissal of the last 72 employees. Le Savane is now made in Pithiviers (Loiret).

And he celebrates 60 years we read everywhere at the moment, especially in the newspaper Le Parisien/Today in France who devoted an article to the Brossard industrial adventure. “60 years is absolutely false”, assures Michel Cotinaud. At 84, the Charentais has the memory and the documents to prove it.

He thus restores the facts with clockwork precision: “I was called in April 1966 by Georges Brossard who put me in the confidence of the release of this pastry. He asked me to test it in the north of France. Far from the Charentes so as not to arouse competition, I visited a hundred stores and delivered a package of six Savanes with a questionnaire which I collected a month later. After ten stores, the conclusion was the same: very good and soft for 15 days, then either it molded, or it hardened very quickly and retracted in the mould”.

A solution to the problem was quickly found and the product was launched on the market. The success was immediate, recalls Michel Cotinaud.
