Rafael Nadal made his Masters debut against Taylor Fritz, qualified following the withdrawal of Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard was obviously still not at his best, surpassed by the American, he lost 7-6(3), 6-1 in 1 hour and 36 minutes of the match.
The first set was very complicated from the start for the Majorcan with three break points to save on these first four face-offs. Always catchy and combative, he finally managed to fight until the tie-break but having suffered the whole round .
Opposite Taylor Fritz, really comfortable serving and very effective on his first serve (91% of points won) took the opportunity to chain winning forehands and win the first set after a convincing tie-break.
The Spaniard then tried to find more length and was condemned to take more risks. In vain, because after having conceded his service at 1-2, he would not see his opponent of the day again, still so uninhibited. Taylor Fritz even took the opportunity to inflict a 6-1 on his executioner from Wimbledon.
This defeat is quite worrying because we never felt Nadal able to play his game. Slow and imprecise, he was like at Bercy a little off his “pumps”.
