Melissa Highsmith has been reunited with her biological family, more than half a century after she was kidnapped by her babysitter in Texas, reports CBS.

It is a miracle that the Highsmith family no longer expected. In 1971, Alta and Jeffrie, an American couple living in Fort Worth (Texas), lost track of their daughter Melissa. She was only 22 months old when she was kidnapped by her babysitter. More than half a century later (51 years exactly), they found her thanks to a DNA test and… Facebook. According CBS, which tells this great story, the National Missing Children’s Center (NCMEC) had a report suggesting that Melissa was in Charleston, South Carolina. After checking, it wasn’t her. But, as a result of this, the Highsmiths regained hope and the miracle happened.

A DNA test from 23andMe, a company that offers DNA sequencing to find relatives, discover ethnic origins or know the genetic medical history, connected Melissa’s children to those of the Highsmith family. Jeffrie, the father, thanks to his two other children, Jeff and Victoria, was then able to get in touch with her on Facebook.
